DECLAW PROCEDURE
The way that Dr. Retford does declaws, there is no need for bandaging, no need for special litter. Unlike some other declaw procedures we leave the flexor process and tendon so that the kitty can still walk on the structure mother nature intended them to. They still "knead", climb cat condos, and are able to walk normally and play right after surgery. Barney will go home a few hours after his surgery with no bandages and no need for special litter. You can see below that just a few minutes after his surgery he is up and pawing at his cage door for more love and attention.
Step by step on how we do our declaws.
Prior to starting Declaw proceedure
Cutting the nail off but leaving the flexor process and tendon.
Nail removed site prepared for surgical adhesive
Surgical adhesive being applied.
Edges closed.
Post-op paw retains normal appearance.
Time immediately after surgery.

Time when Barney woke up.

Barney is awake and using his paws.
Paws look great, no bleeding, no bandages.
After Declaw
Barney does get an antibiotic injection and a pain injection at the time of surgery and will go home with some oral antibiotics as a precautionary measure.
